OVERVIEW
Queen Elizabeth is a protected savanna region in western Uganda, with grassland, forest, lakes and volcanic crater landscapes supporting elephants, lions and abundant birdlife. A natural channel linking two lakes concentrates wildlife along its banks. Grasslands in the north differ from the forested southern sector, where tree climbing lions and smaller herds are often sought.
Boat trips and game drives provide complementary views of the habitats. Different sectors vary greatly in vegetation and animal movement, making more than one day valuable. Fishing communities occupy parts of the lakeshore, placing human settlement directly within the wider conservation landscape. Seasonal flooding changes access and wildlife concentration around the lakes and channels.

See Queen Elizabeth’s savanna panoramas

Cruise Queen Elizabeth’s main waterways
Choose a boat trip that gives a clear view of Queen Elizabeth’s main waterways and the surrounding landscape. Routes and operating periods vary, so confirm the departure point and current schedule.
Take a game drive in Queen Elizabeth
