OVERVIEW
Bwindi is a dense mountain rainforest in south-western Uganda, protected mainly within a national park. Deep valleys, tangled vegetation and steep ridges support extraordinary plant and animal diversity, including roughly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Small gateway villages provide lodges and access to different trekking sectors.
Gorilla tracking is tightly controlled and requires permits, guides and several hours of walking on uneven, often muddy ground. Sightings are usually close and highly structured to limit disturbance. Birdwatching, forest walks and community visits add depth, but the rainforest itself remains demanding, humid and physically challenging.
