OVERVIEW
Ouarzazate is a regional city in southern Morocco, set on a high dry plateau near river valleys and fortified settlements. Modern streets, film studios and residential districts surround older earthen architecture. Away from the principal landmarks, central streets gives way gradually to residential districts across the wider area, with river providing an additional point of connection.
Road journeys to nearby valleys and historic compounds provide much of the destination’s appeal. The city itself is practical and spacious, with intense summer heat shaping daily activity. Conditions around residential districts can differ noticeably from central streets, so flexible timing improves the overall experience, with fortifications providing an additional point of connection.

THINGS TO DO
Taste regional food scene in Ouarzazate
Use Ouarzazate’s regional food scene as a starting point for tasting food connected to Ouarzazate, choosing regional dishes or produce rather than a generic international meal. Opening days may shape the plan.
Trace local history at Aït-Benhaddou
Use Aït-Benhaddou to understand a specific part of Ouarzazate’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Look closely at Solar Park for a concrete introduction to Ouarzazate’s built character. Notice the materials, street setting and later changes as well as the main façade.
