Marrakesh is a large historic city in central Morocco, built around a walled medina of palaces, mosques, markets and residential quarters. Modern districts and gardens extend beyond the old walls beneath the distant Atlas Mountains. Mosques and gardens belong to the same connected landscape, although they often feel distinct on arrival. The wider destination extends from mountain terrain towards markets, with local communities occupying the ground between them, with markets providing an additional point of connection.

Markets, food and courtyard architecture are the clearest strengths, while evenings bring intense activity around the main square. The medina can feel overwhelming, so slower neighbourhood walks reveal far more than a rapid circuit of famous sights. Routes through markets lead naturally towards gardens, so the experience changes without requiring long transfers.
