OVERVIEW
Kakum is a protected rainforest in southern Ghana, where tall tropical trees, tangled understory and small streams support monkeys, birds and numerous insects. The suspended canopy walkway provides a rare view across the upper forest, although much wildlife remains easier to hear than to see. The wider destination extends from forest towards birdlife, with local communities occupying the ground between them.
Guided walks add context on medicinal plants, forest ecology and the conservation pressures surrounding the reserve. Early starts improve the chance of hearing birds and monkeys before heat and visitor activity build through the day. Birdlife draws most attention, but wildlife habitats contributes equally to the destination’s character and daily life.
