OVERVIEW

Elmina is a small coastal town in southern Ghana, dominated by a large European fort beside a working fishing harbour. Narrow streets, colonial buildings and crowded residential areas extend around the waterfront. The town’s history is inseparable from the transatlantic slave trade and earlier commerce in gold and goods.
