OVERVIEW
Tsavo is a huge protected savanna region in southern Kenya, with dry plains, woodland and volcanic landscapes supporting elephants, predators and diverse birdlife. Separate eastern and western sectors feel markedly different. The relationship between red earth, volcanic hills and vast elephant country across an immense savanna divided by roads and rivers and lava gives the wider destination a distinctive structure beyond its principal visitor area.
Game drives cover long distances, while springs, lava fields and river corridors add variation. The scale rewards more than one day and careful sector selection. Spending time with both red earth and volcanic hills and vast elephant country across an immense savanna divided by roads reveals more of the destination than focusing only on its best known sights.
