OVERVIEW
Torres del Paine is a protected mountain region in southern Chile, with sharp granite peaks, glaciers and broad grasslands supporting guanacos and other wildlife, while roads, camps and refuges are widely distributed. The relationship between granite towers, glacial lakes and open steppe across a vast mountain region of extreme weather and iconic trails and mountain region gives the wider destination a distinctive structure beyond its principal visitor area.
Hiking ranges from short viewpoints to demanding multi day circuits, while strong wind can alter plans quickly. Advance booking and flexible timing are essential during peak season. Spending time with both granite towers and glacial lakes and open steppe across a vast mountain region of extreme weather and iconic trails reveals more of the destination than focusing only on its best known sights.
