OVERVIEW
Rwenzori Mountains is a high mountain region on the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with glaciers, bogs and forest arranged across steep valleys. Remote communities occupy the lower slopes beneath protected alpine terrain. Beyond the main centre, lower valleys and high slopes continue to shape settlement, movement and everyday land use.
Multi day trekking is physically demanding and frequently wet, with mud and altitude shaping every route. Lower forest walks offer gentler access, while experienced guides remain essential for high crossings. The contrast between mountain settlements and forest becomes clearest when more than one part of the destination is explored. The contrast between mountain settlements and forest becomes clearest when more than one part of the destination is explored, particularly where mountain settlements meets forest.
