OVERVIEW
Raja Ampat is a vast archipelago in eastern Indonesia, with forested islands, reefs and remote villages spread across a large tropical seascape. Marine biodiversity is exceptionally high, while many communities remain closely tied to fishing and customary land use. Limestone islets dominate some areas, while larger islands contain villages, forest interiors and long channels shaped by powerful currents.
Diving, snorkelling and boat travel dominate the experience, but distances and conservation fees require careful planning. Responsible operators and longer stays reduce pressure on fragile reefs and provide more meaningful contact with local communities. Homestays distribute tourism income more widely and offer closer contact with coastal communities than isolated resort based travel.

THINGS TO DO
Look for marine wildlife in Raja Ampat
Look for wildlife around Raja Ampat’s marine wildlife with attention to habitat and responsible viewing distances. Seasons affect animal movement, and wild sightings should never be guaranteed. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Snorkel around Raja Ampat’s principal snorkelling waters only when sea conditions and access are suitable. Use local guidance where currents or reefs are unfamiliar, and never promise particular marine-life sightings.
Dive at Arborek's village
Dive around Arborek's village with an operator suited to your certification and experience. Visibility, currents and access change with conditions, and particular sightings are never guaranteed.
