OVERVIEW
Lembeh is an island and strait region in northern Sulawesi, with dark seabeds, steep coastal villages and simple dive resorts. Its waters are famous for unusual and well camouflaged marine species. The transition between villages and coastal settlements is visible across the destination, especially away from its best known centre. Away from the principal landmarks, shoreline gives way gradually to villages across the wider area.
Diving is the clear focus, especially for photographers interested in small creatures rather than broad coral scenery. Experienced guides are essential for finding animals that are easy to miss. Resort life is simple, with most daily activity organised around the water. Coast provides the most immediate experience, while island interior offers a quieter and more local perspective.
