OVERVIEW
Port Moresby is a large capital on Papua New Guinea’s southern coast, with government districts, residential neighbourhoods and commercial areas spread across dry hills around a natural harbour. Communities from across the country contribute to its cultural diversity. Dry savanna vegetation distinguishes the surrounding coast from the wetter tropical landscapes found across much of the country.
Museums, markets and coastal viewpoints provide the strongest urban interest. Movement requires careful local planning, while the city’s role as a national hub makes it very different from the rural and island destinations beyond it. Cultural collections and regional markets offer valuable context, but visits require trusted transport and clear arrangements between districts.
