OVERVIEW
Pokhara is a large valley city in central Nepal, built beside a lake and framed by the Annapurna mountain range. Tourist districts, residential neighbourhoods and agricultural areas spread across the broad basin. The tourist lakeside area forms only one part of a much larger city containing markets, schools and expanding residential districts. Older trading neighbourhoods remain visible away from the main lakeside strip.
Boating, short hikes and mountain viewpoints provide easy experiences, while longer treks begin farther into the surrounding highlands. Clear views depend heavily on weather, making early mornings and flexible plans especially valuable. The city is also a staging point for mountain journeys, but local caves, temples and hill settlements reward time before or after a trek.

THINGS TO DO
Paddle Pokhara’s main waters
Paddle around Pokhara’s main paddling waters on a route suited to local water and weather conditions. Hire equipment or a guide where currents, access points or changing forecasts make independent planning difficult.
Unwind at Purna Yoga Retreat Centre
Plan restorative time at Purna Yoga Retreat Centre, checking whether advance booking, swimwear or local bathing customs apply. Thermal and outdoor facilities can also have seasonal restrictions.
Hike around International Mountain Museum
Choose a walk around International Mountain Museum that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round.
