OVERVIEW
Annapurna is a broad mountain region in central Nepal containing some of the world’s highest peaks, deep river gorges and inhabited valleys. Treks range from routes through subtropical farmland and traditional villages to high passes and glacial basins surrounded by snow-covered mountains. The presence of long-established Gurung, Thakali and other communities gives the landscape a cultural dimension beyond the physical challenge.
Some pass through dense settlement and cultivated terraces, while others reach exposed alpine terrain with little vegetation or shelter. Road building has changed parts of the traditional circuit, but alternative paths and village stays preserve much of its value. Altitude, weather and physical demands require careful preparation, and route choice should reflect experience rather than reputation.
