OVERVIEW
Mohéli is the smallest main island in the Comoros, with volcanic hills, farming communities and a protected marine park along the southern coast. Development remains modest, while villages and fishing activity continue to shape everyday life around the island. Small roads and footpaths connect communities whose daily life remains closely tied to farming and fishing.
Snorkelling, village stays and seasonal turtle nesting provide the main appeal. Transport and accommodation are limited, but the low visitor density preserves a strong local character. Villages is encountered differently from coastal settlements, making it worthwhile to leave time for both parts of the destination. Conditions around villages can differ noticeably from coastal settlements, so flexible timing improves the overall experience.

THINGS TO DO
Snorkel around Mohéli’s principal snorkelling waters only when sea conditions and access are suitable. Use local guidance where currents or reefs are unfamiliar, and never promise particular marine-life sightings.
Spend time at Mohéli’s coastline rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Look for marine wildlife in Mohéli
Look for wildlife around Mohéli’s marine wildlife with attention to habitat and responsible viewing distances. Seasons affect animal movement, and wild sightings should never be guaranteed. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
