OVERVIEW
Manuel Antonio is a rainforest and coastal region in western Costa Rica, centred on a small protected area of beaches, forest and rocky headlands. Hotels and restaurants are spread along the steep road above the coast. The transition between coast and wildlife habitats is visible across the destination, especially away from its best known centre.
Wildlife is often visible on short trails, although crowds can be substantial. Early entry and careful respect for animals create a more rewarding experience. Conditions around coast can differ noticeably from wildlife habitats, so flexible timing improves the overall experience. Exploring beyond wildlife habitats reveals forest, a part of the destination that short visits often miss.
