Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, with a mountainous north west, fertile interior and heavily developed resort coasts. Historic towns, farms and quiet villages remain spread between the busiest visitor areas. The wider destination extends from mountain terrain towards islands, with local communities occupying the ground between them. The transition between beaches and island interior is visible across the destination, especially away from its best known centre, with islands providing an additional point of connection.

Driving and cycling reveal major contrasts over short distances. Choosing one or two bases allows time for local food, mountain roads and beaches without constant transfers. The relationship between coast and mountain terrain becomes clearest when the destination is explored over more than one area. Mountain terrain provides the most immediate experience, while coast offers a quieter and more local perspective, with islands providing an additional point of connection.
