Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island lies off the coast of Queensland, with forested hills, rocky coves and small residential communities connected by local roads. Much of the island is protected as national park. Settlement follows the relationship between coast and residential districts, which remains visible beyond the main visitor routes. Island interior and residential districts belong to the same connected landscape, although they often feel distinct on arrival.

Walking, swimming and wildlife viewing are easy to combine, while buses and rentals make exploration straightforward. The island feels informal and accessible without losing its natural character. A visit centred only on wildlife habitats would overlook residential districts, where the wider landscape and local activity remain visible. Forest provides the most immediate experience, while coast offers a quieter and more local perspective.
