OVERVIEW
Kilimanjaro is a vast dormant volcano in northern Tanzania, with several ecological zones climbing from cultivated foothills through rainforest and alpine desert to the summit. Multi day ascents require acclimatisation, guides and careful route selection, while clear morning views reveal the mountain’s isolated scale. Forest and mountain terrain form separate but closely connected parts of the destination.
Glacial retreat is increasingly visible and forms an important part of the landscape’s changing story. The mountain’s lower farms and villages provide valuable context for an ascent that is often presented only as a summit challenge. Volcanic slopes provides the most immediate experience, while mountain terrain offers a quieter and more local perspective.
