Karachi is Pakistan’s largest city, spread along the Arabian Sea with major ports, business districts and dense residential neighbourhoods extending across an enormous urban region. Markets, food and cultural institutions reflect communities from across the country, while colonial civic buildings survive in parts of the centre. Local food sits alongside neighbourhoods, placing the principal sights within a broader inhabited landscape.

Traffic, heat and security conditions require planning, but the city’s economic and cultural scale is impossible to ignore. Food and neighbourhood life provide a clearer understanding than remaining only in business districts or formal waterfront areas. Residential districts is experienced differently from neighbourhoods, so both areas contribute useful but separate perspectives.
