OVERVIEW
Kahuzi-Biega is a large rainforest region in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, extending from volcanic mountains to lowland forest. It protects eastern lowland gorillas along with elephants, primates and rich birdlife. Access is concentrated near only a small part of the park. The transition between rainforest and mountain terrain is visible across the destination, especially away from its best known centre.
Gorilla tracking requires guides and careful conservation protocols. Security conditions can change rapidly and must be checked through reliable sources. The ecological importance is immense, but travel remains complex. Local conservation teams and community partnerships are central to the park’s long term future. A visit centred only on port would overlook elephant habitat, where the wider landscape and local activity remain visible.
