OVERVIEW
Jasper is a mountain region in western Canada, centred on a small town within a large national park. Glacial lakes, river valleys and high peaks extend far beyond the settlement. Wildlife such as elk, bears and bighorn sheep is frequently seen near roads and trails. High peaks occupies a different part of the destination from lake shore, giving the wider area a clear physical structure.
Driving and hiking reveal the region’s scale, while boat trips and cable cars provide easier viewpoints. Distances are significant and weather changes quickly, with high peaks and mountain terrain providing the wider context. The quieter atmosphere distinguishes it from more heavily developed mountain centres. Routes through high peaks lead naturally towards lakes, so the experience changes without requiring long transfers, with lake shore providing an additional point of connection.
