OVERVIEW
Calgary stands where two rivers meet on the open plains, with the Rocky Mountains visible to the west on clear days. A modern downtown of office towers reflects the city’s energy economy, while older neighbourhoods, parks and former industrial districts spread along the river corridors. Ranching history and annual rodeo traditions remain prominent parts of its public identity.
Extensive walking and cycling paths make the rivers central to daily life, linking parks, residential areas and the centre. Restaurants and breweries have expanded well beyond traditional steakhouse culture, and several neighbourhoods provide more character than the business district alone. The mountains are close enough for day trips, but the city has a distinct urban life of its own.
