OVERVIEW
Dzanga-Sangha is a protected rainforest region in the south western Central African Republic. Dense forest surrounds natural clearings where elephants, buffalo and other animals gather around mineral rich ground. Habituated western lowland gorillas provide rare opportunities for guided tracking, while local BaAka communities hold deep knowledge of the forest.
Wildlife viewing depends on specialist guides, patience and difficult logistics. Access can be affected by regional security conditions, and reliable current advice is essential. When conditions permit, the combination of clearings, primates and living forest culture is exceptional, with far fewer visitors than better known safari areas.
