OVERVIEW
Dominica is a mountainous island of deep valleys, dense rainforest and short rivers descending rapidly to the sea. Volcanic activity appears in hot springs, sulphur vents and a famous boiling lake, while the coast alternates between cliffs, small beaches and fishing settlements. Roseau provides the main urban centre, but much of the island remains rural and heavily forested.
Hiking is the clearest way to experience the interior, from short waterfall walks to demanding mountain routes. Snorkelling and diving reveal volcanic underwater landscapes, while whale watching is possible offshore. Roads are winding and journeys take time, yet the absence of large resort development preserves a strong connection between village life and wild scenery.

THINGS TO DO
Snorkel around Dominica’s principal snorkelling waters only when sea conditions and access are suitable. Use local guidance where currents or reefs are unfamiliar, and never promise particular marine-life sightings.
Find Dominica’s black-sand beaches
Spend time at Dominica’s black-sand beaches rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water.
Plan restorative time at Dominica’s principal wellness area, checking whether advance booking, swimwear or local bathing customs apply. Thermal and outdoor facilities can also have seasonal restrictions.
Look for island wildlife in Dominica
Look for wildlife around Dominica’s island wildlife with attention to habitat and responsible viewing distances. Seasons affect animal movement, and wild sightings should never be guaranteed. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Dive at Dominica’s principal sites
Dive around Dominica’s principal dive sites with an operator suited to your certification and experience. Visibility, currents and access change with conditions, and particular sightings are never guaranteed.
Hike around Middle Ham Falls
Choose a walk around Middle Ham Falls that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
