OVERVIEW
Comoé is one of West Africa’s largest protected areas, covering savanna, woodland and river habitats in the north-east of Côte d’Ivoire. Seasonal waterways and forest strips create unusual ecological variety, supporting elephants, buffalo, several antelope species and a rich bird population. Infrastructure is limited, and wildlife is spread across a very large area.
Visits require specialist planning, local guidance and patience rather than expectations of dense safari sightings. Roads can be difficult, especially after rain, and services are basic. The main value lies in the scale and relative wildness of the landscape, where long drives pass through changing habitats with few signs of development.

THINGS TO DO
Walk Comoé’s forest trails
Choose a walk around Comoé’s forest trails that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round.
Hiking
2 hours to full day
Take a game drive in Comoé
Take a guided game drive in Comoé’s principal game-viewing area, using local expertise to understand habitats and animal behaviour. Wildlife moves freely, so no species or sighting should be guaranteed.
Visit Comoé’s principal museums
Focus on Comoé’s principal museums for a collection that adds real context to Comoé. Check current exhibitions and opening days, then allow enough time for the sections most relevant to the destination.
