OVERVIEW
Bobo-Dioulasso is Burkina Faso’s second-largest city and an important centre of trade and culture. The old quarter contains narrow lanes, family compounds and a large mosque built in the Sahelian mud-brick style. Wider boulevards, shaded courtyards and a busy central market give the city a more spacious feel than the capital.
Music is central to local identity, with traditional instruments, dance and live performance remaining active parts of social life. Craft workshops and markets reveal long-standing skills in textiles and metalwork. The city’s slower rhythm and strong regional traditions make it valuable beyond its main monuments, though infrastructure can be basic.
