OVERVIEW
Cefalù sits between the sea and a massive limestone headland on Sicily’s northern coast. A Norman cathedral anchors the historic centre, where narrow lanes descend towards a small fishing harbour and a long sandy beach. Stone houses and medieval wash facilities preserve the character of the old settlement despite substantial visitor activity.
The beach is unusually close to major historic sights, making swimming and town exploration easy to combine. A steep path climbs the headland to ruins and broad coastal views, though summer heat makes early starts preferable. Day visitors fill the central streets, while evenings become calmer and more focused on local restaurants and the waterfront.
