OVERVIEW
Bora Bora is a small volcanic island enclosed by a broad lagoon and outer coral reef. A jagged central mountain dominates the landscape, while low reef islets hold many of the island’s luxury resorts. The main settlement provides local shops and services, but most visitor activity is spread around the lagoon rather than concentrated in one centre.
Boat trips, snorkelling and diving focus on clear water, coral gardens and encounters with rays and reef sharks. Overwater accommodation offers direct lagoon access, though prices are high and resort life can feel self-contained. Inland roads and short hikes reveal farming areas, villages and military remains beyond the polished waterfront.
