OVERVIEW
Andorra la Vella is the small capital of Andorra, set in a narrow valley high in the Pyrenees between France and Spain. Modern shops, hotels and traffic fill much of the centre, while an older stone quarter preserves the historic parliament building and traditional houses. Steep mountains rise immediately around the city, and roads lead quickly to ski areas, hiking routes and quieter villages.
Shopping and practical services dominate the urban experience, so the capital is less picturesque than many surrounding settlements. Its value lies in providing restaurants, accommodation and transport at the centre of a compact mountain country. Short journeys reach thermal spas, viewpoints and outdoor areas, while the old quarter offers a small but useful introduction to Andorra’s political history.
