OVERVIEW
Vilnius is a large city in eastern Lithuania, with a preserved historic centre, residential districts and former industrial areas spread across a hilly river landscape. Polish, Jewish, Lithuanian and Soviet histories remain deeply layered. Away from the main centre, baroque courtyards gives way gradually to wooded hills and creative neighbourhoods in a compact capital shaped by several cultural traditions, with local communities occupying the landscape between them.
Walking, food and museums provide substantial cultural depth, while parks and converted creative districts reveal a more contemporary city. The compact centre is easy to explore, and surrounding hills provide broad viewpoints. Baroque courtyards draws most attention, but wooded hills and creative neighbourhoods in a compact capital shaped by several cultural traditions contributes equally to the destination’s character and everyday life.
