OVERVIEW
Victoria Falls is a small city in western Zimbabwe, built beside a vast waterfall where the Zambezi River drops into narrow basalt gorges. Tourism, conservation and cross border travel shape the local economy and urban layout. Away from the main centre, immense spray gives way gradually to basalt gorges and river adventure beside one of the world’s most powerful waterfall landscapes, with local communities occupying the landscape between them.
Water levels change the view dramatically through the year, from dense spray to clearer gorge exposure. Walking paths, river activities and nearby wildlife areas provide varied experiences, while seasonal heat and rainfall affect comfort. Time spent away from immense spray reveals basalt gorges and river adventure beside one of the world’s most powerful waterfall landscapes, local streets and landscapes that shorter visits often overlook.
