OVERVIEW
Hwange is a large savanna and woodland region in western Zimbabwe. Artificial waterholes support elephants, buffalo, predators and numerous antelope species through the dry season. Camps and roads are spread across a broad protected area, with wildlife density varying significantly by sector. Savanna occupies a different part of the destination from wildlife habitats, giving the wider area a clear physical structure.
Game drives are strongest near water during the dry months, while the rainy season brings greener scenery and dispersed animals. Distances are long and some roads are rough. The size of the reserve creates a sense of space often missing from smaller safari parks. The strongest contrast comes between elephant habitat and savanna, which support different activities and daily rhythms.
