OVERVIEW
Hwange is a large savanna and woodland region in western Zimbabwe. Artificial waterholes support elephants, buffalo, predators and numerous antelope species through the dry season. Camps and roads are spread across a broad protected area, with wildlife density varying significantly by sector. Savanna occupies a different part of the destination from wildlife habitats, giving the wider area a clear physical structure.
Game drives are strongest near water during the dry months, while the rainy season brings greener scenery and dispersed animals. Distances are long and some roads are rough. The size of the reserve creates a sense of space often missing from smaller safari parks. The strongest contrast comes between elephant habitat and savanna, which support different activities and daily rhythms.

THINGS TO DO
Watch the night sky in Hwange
Use Hwange’s darkest viewing area for a night-sky session away from the strongest local light. Cloud, moonlight and seasonal access affect visibility, so check conditions before making a special journey.
Drive Hwange’s scenic roads
Build a manageable drive through Hwange’s scenic roads, allowing for stops and slower roads. In a destination as spread out as Hwange, choose a route that works from your base.
Road Trips
Half or full day
Take a game drive in Hwange
Take a guided game drive in Hwange’s principal game-viewing area, using local expertise to understand habitats and animal behaviour. Wildlife moves freely, so no species or sighting should be guaranteed.
