OVERVIEW
Sequoia and Kings Canyon is a protected mountain region in California, with immense sequoia groves, deep river valleys and high alpine terrain. Roads reach only selected areas, leaving much of the landscape accessible by trail. High slopes occupies a different part of the area from mountain settlements, creating a clear physical contrast. Beyond the main centre, lower valleys and mountain settlements continue to shape settlement and movement across the wider destination.
Walking among giant trees provides the most immediate experience, while longer hikes reveal remote lakes and granite ridges. Snow and wildfire conditions can affect access across the year. The contrast between high slopes and mountain settlements becomes clearest when more than one area is explored. Time spent around mountain settlements also brings lower valleys into view, adding another layer to the visit.
