San Luis Potosí is a major city in central Mexico, with a preserved historic centre, industrial districts and extensive residential neighbourhoods. Mining, trade and manufacturing have shaped its growth. Historic centre and museums form separate but closely connected parts of the destination’s geography. Historic centre occupies a different part of the area from mountains, creating a clear physical contrast beyond the central visitor zone.

Architecture, food and museums provide the strongest urban experiences, while surrounding desert, mountain and waterfall regions add very different excursions. The city is large, so district based planning is useful. The contrast between historic centre and architecture becomes clearest when more than one part of the destination is explored. A visit centred only on desert would overlook local food, where local activity and landscape remain equally visible, particularly where desert meets local food.
