OVERVIEW
Querétaro is a major city in central Mexico, with a compact colonial centre, aqueduct and extensive modern residential and industrial districts. Trade, manufacturing and education have driven rapid growth beyond the old streets. The aqueduct and baroque churches reflect colonial wealth, while restored courtyards now contain museums, restaurants and public institutions. Residential development now spreads well beyond the ring of older neighbourhoods.
Architecture, food and evening plazas provide an easy introduction. Nearby wine country and historic towns add variety, while the city itself remains lively and functional. Rapid industrial growth has made the wider city one of the country’s major economic centres, creating a striking contrast with the historic core. Evening pedestrian streets remain active with families, students and local performers.

THINGS TO DO
Trace local history at World Heritage Site
Use World Heritage Site to understand a specific part of Querétaro’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Look closely at Palacio Municipal for a concrete introduction to Querétaro’s built character. Notice the materials, street setting and later changes as well as the main façade.
Taste food-and-wine traditions in Querétaro
Use Querétaro’s food-and-wine traditions as a starting point for tasting food connected to Querétaro, choosing regional dishes or produce rather than a generic international meal. Opening days may shape the plan.
