OVERVIEW
Samburu is a protected savanna region in northern Kenya, with dry woodland, rocky hills and a river corridor supporting elephants, predators and specialised wildlife. Pastoral communities live across the wider landscape, while open plains and seasonal water sources shape settlement, movement and everyday land use beyond the principal reserve roads. Dry hills and scrubland add further variation beyond the river corridor.
Game drives concentrate around water, especially during dry periods when wildlife gathers near the river. Cultural visits require respectful, community led arrangements rather than staged encounters. A visit centred only on savanna would overlook hills, where local activity and landscape remain equally visible.
