OVERVIEW
Salinas is a small city on Ecuador’s south western coast, built around a long peninsula of beaches, marinas and residential development. Tourism and fishing support the local economy, while dry hills and salt affected landscapes extend inland. Marinas and residential towers create a highly urbanised seafront. Hills occupies a different part of the area from residential districts, creating a clear physical contrast beyond the central visitor zone.
Swimming, seafood and waterfront walks dominate peak season, when crowds and traffic increase sharply. Quieter nearby beaches and coastal roads provide a calmer alternative beyond the central resort zone. The contrast between hills and waterfront becomes clearest when more than one part of the destination is explored. The relationship between residential districts and coast adds variety without requiring a completely different base.

THINGS TO DO
Surf at Salinas’ best-known surf break only in conditions suited to your ability. Breaks, currents and access vary by season, and unfamiliar locations are best approached with local advice.
Taste local food around Oldtown Salinas Farmer's Market
Use Oldtown Salinas Farmer's Market as a starting point for tasting food connected to Salinas, choosing regional dishes or produce rather than a generic international meal. Opening days may shape the plan.
Spend time at Monterey Bay rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water.
