OVERVIEW
Safranbolu is a small town in northern Turkey, with historic houses, mosques and workshops arranged across steep valleys. Wealth from regional trade produced large courtyard mansions that remain unusually well preserved. Modern residential districts occupy the flatter ground beyond the old valleys. Local neighbourhoods occupies a different part of the area from historic centre, creating a clear physical contrast beyond the central visitor zone.
Walking reveals the relationship between domestic architecture, gardens and commercial streets. Nearby villages and canyons add natural variety, while the old centre becomes calmer after day visitors leave. Local neighbourhoods is experienced differently from villages, so both areas contribute separate perspectives, particularly where local neighbourhoods meets villages. The contrast between local neighbourhoods and villages becomes clearest when more than one part of the destination is explored.
