OVERVIEW
Reggio Calabria is a coastal city at the southern tip of the peninsula, with a long waterfront, compact centre and residential districts extending beneath steep inland hills. Archaeological collections, rebuilt streets and port activity reflect a city repeatedly shaped by earthquakes, migration and maritime trade. Hills occupies a different part of the area from villages, creating a clear physical contrast beyond the central visitor zone.
Walking the promenade gives the clearest view across the strait, while museums and local food add cultural depth beyond the waterfront. Nearby villages and mountain roads provide a very different landscape from the dense urban shore. The relationship between museums and villages adds variety without requiring a completely different base.
