OVERVIEW
Redwood Parks is a forest region along the northern California coast, where immense old growth trees rise above rivers, fern canyons and wooded ridges. Several protected areas and nearby towns form one connected landscape. Coastal fog supplies moisture during dry summers, supporting trees that survive for centuries within a narrow climatic zone. Prairie openings and river corridors break the continuity of the forest.
Walking is essential for understanding the height and atmosphere of the trees. Coastal roads, beaches and quieter inland trails provide variety beyond the most famous groves. Former logging towns and restoration areas reveal how much of the surrounding forest was altered before protection expanded. Elk graze in open areas near the forest and coast.

THINGS TO DO
Find Redwood Parks’ coastline
Spend time at Redwood Parks’ coastline rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water.
Look for wildlife areas in Redwood Parks
Look for wildlife around Redwood Parks’ wildlife areas with attention to habitat and responsible viewing distances. Seasons affect animal movement, and wild sightings should never be guaranteed.
Walk Redwood Parks’ coastal trails
Choose a walk around Redwood Parks’ coastal trails that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round.
