Portofino

Portofino is a small harbour town on the Ligurian coast, with colourful houses gathered around a sheltered inlet beneath forested hills. Villas, paths and rocky coves extend across the surrounding peninsula. The surrounding headland is protected, preserving Mediterranean woodland, cliff paths and small inlets immediately beyond the compact harbour. Permanent residents occupy only a small part of the tightly constrained settlement.

The harbour becomes crowded with day visitors, but walking routes provide quieter views and access to nearby bays. Staying later reveals a more intimate village after boats and excursions depart. Ferry arrivals change the village’s atmosphere sharply through the day, while mornings and evenings retain more of its residential character.
