OVERVIEW
Noto is a small town in south eastern Sicily, rebuilt after a major earthquake with a highly coherent baroque plan. Churches, palaces and residential streets are arranged along broad terraces and gentle slopes. Away from the principal landmarks, central streets gives way gradually to residential districts across the wider area, with churches providing an additional point of connection.
Walking is the main experience, especially when evening light warms the limestone façades. Nearby countryside and coastal reserves add variety beyond the compact centre. Conditions around palaces can differ noticeably from coast, so flexible timing improves the overall experience. Routes through churches lead naturally towards residential districts, so the experience changes without requiring long transfers.
