OVERVIEW
Nantucket is a low Atlantic island with a preserved harbour town, broad beaches and quiet roads crossing heathland and wetlands. Whaling history remains visible in architecture, museums and local traditions. Beyond the central area, island interior and harbour continue to organise settlement, movement and everyday land use. Harbour and beaches form separate but closely connected parts of the destination.
Cycling, beach walks and historic streets provide the main experiences. Summer crowds and prices are high, but quieter parts of the island retain a strong sense of space. Time spent around wetlands also brings island interior into view, adding a different layer to the visit. The relationship between harbour and beaches becomes clearest when the destination is explored over more than one area, with museums providing an additional point of connection.
