Monemvasia is a historic fortified town on a rocky island off the Peloponnese coast. Narrow lanes, stone houses and churches occupy the lower settlement beneath a high plateau. The wider destination extends from coast towards ruins, with local communities occupying the ground between them. The destination is physically divided between fortifications and churches, with roads and settlements linking the two.

Walking is the only way to explore the old streets, while the upper ruins provide broad sea views. Staying overnight reveals a quieter and more atmospheric town. Coast provides the most immediate experience, while churches offers a quieter and more local perspective, with island interior providing an additional point of connection.
