OVERVIEW
Kutaisi is one of Georgia’s oldest cities, built along the Rioni River and centred on markets, residential streets and religious sites. The surrounding region contains caves, monasteries and fertile countryside. Away from the principal landmarks, residential districts gives way gradually to caves across the wider area. The wider destination extends from caves towards residential districts, with local communities occupying the ground between them.
The centre is compact and less formal than the capital, with food and everyday street life providing much of its appeal. Day trips add natural and historical variety without reducing the city to a simple base. River walks and family run restaurants add a warmer local dimension to the historic sites.

THINGS TO DO
Browse Kutaisi’s principal market
Browse Kutaisi’s principal market for goods connected to Kutaisi, focusing on local makers, produce or established specialities. Check market days and avoid assuming every stall is locally made.
Trace local history at Kutaisi State Historical Museum
Use Kutaisi State Historical Museum to understand a specific part of Kutaisi’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Taste local food around Bazaar
Use Bazaar as a starting point for tasting food connected to Kutaisi, choosing regional dishes or produce rather than a generic international meal. Opening days may shape the plan.
