OVERVIEW
Krkonoše is a mountain region in northern Czechia, with forested valleys, exposed ridges and long established resort towns. Trails, ski areas and historic mountain huts provide access throughout the year. Villages and mountain terrain belong to the same connected landscape, although they often feel distinct on arrival. Across the wider area, mountain terrain remains closely connected with villages, rather than forming an isolated visitor zone.
Weather changes quickly on the higher ground, while lower valleys remain gentler and more sheltered. Combining ridge walks with spa towns and village roads creates a fuller experience than focusing only on summits. The range is compact enough to combine several valleys without constant long transfers. Villages is encountered differently from mountain terrain, making it worthwhile to leave time for both parts of the destination.

THINGS TO DO
Trace local history at Fortress Stachelberg
Use Fortress Stachelberg to understand a specific part of Krkonoše’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Hike around Mumlava Waterfall
Choose a walk around Mumlava Waterfall that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round.
Hiking
2 hours to full day
Plan restorative time at Krkonoše’s principal wellness area, checking whether advance booking, swimwear or local bathing customs apply. Thermal and outdoor facilities can also have seasonal restrictions.
Choose terrain at Krkonoše’s principal ski area that matches your ability. Operating dates, lift access and snow quality depend on the season and conditions, so check the current report before travelling.
