Kraków is a major historic city in southern Poland, centred on a vast market square, royal castle and dense network of old streets. Universities, churches and former Jewish districts add further layers beyond the medieval core. Settlement follows the relationship between churches and markets, which remains visible beyond the main visitor routes.
