OVERVIEW
Łódź is a large central city shaped by nineteenth century textile manufacturing, with vast brick mills, workers’ districts and merchant palaces spread across a broad urban grid. Many former industrial sites now contain cultural, residential and commercial spaces. Residential districts occupies a different part of the destination from central streets, giving the wider area a clear physical structure.
Architecture, design and contemporary art provide the strongest reasons to explore, while local cafés and neighbourhood streets reveal an increasingly creative identity. The city feels rawer than more polished heritage centres, but its transformation is unusually visible. Palaces provides the most immediate experience, while architecture offers a quieter and more local perspective.
