OVERVIEW
Khiva is a compact historic town in western Uzbekistan, enclosed by high mud brick walls and filled with mosques, madrasas and merchant houses. The old centre is highly preserved and easy to explore, with blue tilework and carved wooden columns creating strong visual coherence. Beyond the principal centre, central streets and local neighbourhoods continue to influence how the destination is organised.
Evenings and early mornings reveal a calmer atmosphere after group tours leave. Staying inside or near the walls allows time to notice domestic courtyards, carved doors and the changing light on the mud brick architecture. Mosques provides the most immediate experience, while surrounding countryside offers a quieter and more local perspective.
